Piper Linley T!

Piper Playing

May 1st, 2009

Piper likes crawling around on the floor and playing with real objects.  She doesn’t really enjoy baby toys very much, but she loves plastic and metal cups and bowls.

Today Piper played in the sand box for the first time.  She loved it.  It’s looking good for my beach forecast this summer.

Piper is on the move.

April 29th, 2009

Piper is sitting up and mobile!  She has been sitting up for a few weeks and dragging herself around for a couple of weeks.  She even pulled herself up to standing at a little table in our den this past Sunday, but then she face planted into the table and fell back onto her head, so I hope she doesn’t try that again for awhile.  Today she coordinated crawling with her knees bent.  She’s pretty quick, and it is definitely time for me to reevaluate our infant safety around the house.

Here she is in our driveway this past weekend as we made a shallow dent in the garage disaster zone.

Also big news, this past Friday, Piper got her first tooth.  It was her bottom left one.  Since Sophie didn’t get her first one until her first birthday, I had resigned myself to waiting for Piper’s first one.

The cutest part about Piper right now is her happy energetic and talkative personality.  She likes being around people, so she follows you wherever you go.  She also likes to put her hand on the shower door while we are showering.  I bath her every night now because she loves the water.  This aquatic appreciation has come just in time for the pool!

Physically, as you can see from the pics, she has her Dad’s hair. . . .right down to the cut.  It’s pretty hilarious.

She says “da da” a lot, but not in reference to Mark.  She is actually pretty attached to me at this point, but as I’ve learned, that attachment frequently changes back and forth.

I’ll try to catch up on Piper’s blog as well.  All I can really is promise is that I’ll be better about blogging in the future.

Piper resting

April 14th, 2009

Piper is starting to fall into a two nap pattern, which is WONDERFUL, and she sleeps through the night now from about 6:30 or 7:00 p.m. until 6:00 or 6:30 a.m.  I’ll take the hour or so of fussiness in the evening for the full night’s sleep.

Clearly she is a thumb sucker, which I also love.  Not only is it cute, but I don’t have to worry about her pacifier falling out of her mouth in the middle of the night.  Nor do I have to deal with the “drop the paci” game.  Thumbs rule!

Piper and Sopes

April 14th, 2009

Piper and Sophie spend a lot of time on the floor together.  Piper appreciates the company.

Piper loves to eat

April 14th, 2009

She’s not the biggest fan of peas.

but she loves her carrots.

She also loves sweet potatoes, bananas, apples, mangos, rice cereal, and brown rice cereal.  I’m trying to work on her with whole wheat cereal and vegetables.  She’s definitely a better eater than Sophie was.  She eats three times a day already and I have to cut her food with cereal to fill her up.  I love it!

More Pip
More Pip

April 14th, 2009

Here are more pictures of Piper, Sophie and Dad.

And here is Piper enjoying Sophie’s hair.  It’s very difficult to teach her to be gentle with Sophie’s hair.  I mean look at it.  I don’t blame her for wanting to play with it.

Piper — Long time, no see.

March 31st, 2009

Piper is getting big!  We have been pretty slack in updating the blogs, mainly because we have busy living our lives.  Piper sat up by herself yesterday (3/30/09) for the first time.  It was precious.  She tried one time and face planted, and then cried for along time.  Then, she tried again and face planted, but she wasn’t as upset with herself.  She took a two or three hour break and ate and relaxed, and then she just magically sat up like a pro.

Her personality is adorable.  She is equally as charming as Sophie, but completely different.  She is very vocal and active.  She also gets very upset when you try to take anything from her, not just out of her hands but out of her viewshed.  She is also a mama’s girl.  She doesn’t like to lose sight of me.  She is very smiley, but also very demanding of herself.  It’s so amazing to see her personality emerging.  Her favorite pick-me-up is Sophie.  She also likes playing “bed monster” with Mark and Sophie.  I’m not really into that game because I don’t like anything that perpetuates monsters as a reality, but I am finding that I am frequently a bummer in the adventure play arena.

Piper’s other recent happenings — she’s eating carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, apples, peas and rice cereal.  I’m about to introduce peaches (big news!).  Also, she bathes about once a week — I know that is gross to some, but i wash her legs, face and arms/hands daily.  She just can’t stand being in the cold on her back, so when I bathe her, I have to get in the tub with her and heat up the room.  I know she will love the pool this summer and all worries with be over.

She doesn’t like when I put her in the car seat, but she loves riding in the car, especially since she faces Sophie.  I’m not nearly as anxious about seeing her at all times like I was with Sophie.

I can already tell that Piper is not a kid to be reckoned with.  She’s sweet and happy, but she’s no push-over.  The kids in her class are older, but she keeps up.  She’s never cries when Sophie lands on her or pulls her.  She only cries if she is being hurt, and Sophie is pretty good at knowing what the threshold is.  They scare me to death, but they seem to keep each other pretty happy.  More pictures to come. . . .but here is one form this weekend.

January 31st, 2009

Piper has really blossomed this past week.  She rolled from her back to her stomach, began turning around in circles and finally let me bathe her without a screaming tirade.  Every bit of progress makes her a happier baby.  I can tell Piper is very focused on long-term goals.  Her goal is to be able to sit independently.  Until then, she will not be satisfied in a car seat, in a bathtub, or in any reclined position.  I’m reading about the RIE philosophy of raising a baby with respect and with natural movements — without walkers and swings and any sort of artificial aids.  I like that Magda Gerber admits in the first chapter that you should only take away what works for you because every baby/person IS different.

Anyhow, Piper is happier with every day of freedom from stagnation.  It’s obvious that her freedom makes her happy.  Here are some pics of her just being her happy free self:

. . . .and here is the Pilps trying to get some much needed attention.

First “solid” food!

January 27th, 2009

Pip devoured her first “solid” meal, which consisted of rice cereal mixed with breast milk.  She absolutely loved it.  I only wish I had better pictures!  The closeups of her enjoying her meal are all blurry :(.

Piper is also enjoying the old playstation, which is good because Daddy likes it too!

After the meal, the little thumbsucker enjoyed a good nap.  Who doesn’t like a nap after a big lunch?  I know I do!

Big Sis Loves Pip

Big sister Sophie T. loves her some Pipster!  This pic is Daddy’s new computer wallpaper.
